As a member of the Association of Medical Doctors of Asia (AMDA), I have had previous field experience during the Kosovo conflict, the earthquake in Turkey and the devastating Sumatran tsunami of 2004. On March 13th 2011 we were mobilized to a field hospital in Otsuchi town in Iwate prefecture where the original population had been approximately 16,000.
