Drug Delivery in Oncology: The Last Decade and Future Therapies

Felix Kratz, PhD

Dr Kratz, editor of Drug Delivery in Oncology: From Basic Research to Cancer Therapy, gives an overview of their very informative book for the clinician audience.  How to effectively target tumors remains a critical challenge in cancer treatment; the sensitivity and specificity of available agents can be negatively affected. Dr Kratz describes how, with increasing information provided by initiatives such as the Human Genome Project, targeted therapeutics became more popular in cancer therapy, but yielded few clear improvements in patient care; this has led to his interest in pursuing advances in how to target established drugs to tumors to enhance their effectiveness. Dr Kratz discusses some of the changes in oncology therapies over the last decade, and what classes of therapeutics will make an impact over the next ten years.
